In modern world, we are all learning English. However, very few have realized that it eclipsed the importance of the study of Chinese which is our mother tongue.
The causes that lurks within are very evident actually. First and foremost, most of us think that we are living in a Chinese environment. We use Chinese everyday. Hence, it is unnecessary for us to study it in particular. On the other hand, we are all too busy. Students have to learn mathematics, physics, economy and history; employed men have their jobs and housework and the family to support. Everything in life just tell them not to study Chinese by leaving them no time.
The lack of due attention to the study of Chinese is very harmful. As a nation, we show lousy ability of language manipulation. The article that we write are of poor quality. In a larger sense, we face the possibility of losing a very important symbol of our own identity.
The phenomenon mentioned is thought-provoking. This is not the responsibility of any one single individual, but of us all, and it is imperative that we should do something to raise people's awareness of studying Chinese.
