第一节:阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项 (A、B、C和D) 中,选出最佳选项, 并在答题纸上将该选项标号涂黑。

A

I arrived late one night on a business trip, so I decided to have dinner in the hotel I stayed in. As I was finishing my meal, an elderly couple came in. They were holding hands and had lovely smiles on their faces. They sat three tables from me. I was amazed at the love they showed for each other. It stuck me because it was shortly after ending a 20-year marriage and I still had pain in my heart.

My waiter was also their waiter. As I paid my bill, I asked what their bill was. He told me, and I gave him $40 to pay their bill. He asked if I knew them and I told him ―No, I just wanted to repay them for the love that they were showing to each other,‖ and then I left.

The next day I entered the restaurant again. After I had been seated, the waiter who served me the night before told me that the strangest thing happened after I left the restaurant. When the

elderly couple went to pay for their meal, they were told that it had been paid. The waiter just told them what I said. They were amazed. They looked around, asked for the bill of two young couples who were seated together, paid their bill and left.

I smiled and ordered my meal. About 45 minutes later, I finished my meal and was about to head out, but my waiter was nowhere to be found. I explained to the hostess that I needed to pay for my meal and hurry to the airport. She smiled and explained that I would not have to pay, because she felt she should pay for my bill because of the joy brought to the faces of the elderly couple and the amazement of the young couples.

Siri. The intelligent assistant that helps you get things done. All you have to do is ask. Now you can use your voice to use your iPhone 4S. Just talk to Siri as you would to a person: ―Do I need an umbrella?‖ or ―Where’s the closest ATM?‖ Siri not only understands what you say, it knows what you mean. It figures out the right apps to use to find the right answer. Then, just like a personal assistant, it

answers you. Siri makes phone calls, sends messages, schedules meetings, sets reminders, and more. How much more? Just ask, and Siri tells you that, too. Dual-core A5 chip: the most powerful iPhone ever.

Two cores in the A5 chip provide up to two times more power and up to seven times faster graphics. And you’ll feel the effects. iPhone 4S is quick and responsive, which makes all the difference when you’re launching apps, surfing

the web, gaming, an doing just about everything. And no matter what you’re doing, you can keep on doing it. Because the A5 chip is so power-efficient, iPhone 4S has outstanding battery life. FaceTime. It’s even better face-to-face.

FaceTime of iPhone 4S lets you hear a voice and see the face that goes with it—iPhone to iPhone, iPad 2, iPod touch, or Mac over Wi-Fi. So no matter where they are, no matter where you are, you’ll always be there. Making a FaceTime call

is just as easy as making a phone call. And it’s even easier with Siri. Just tell Siri ―FaceTime with Mom‖ and you show up, smile and wave hello. You’ll never miss a big event, an important meeting or a good laugh. And who wouldn’t be happy to see your face? 59. The passage is mainly about __________.

There is no question that fewer teenagers are on the roads in the US.

In 1978, 50% of 16-year-olds had got their first driving licence. In 2008, according to the US Transportation Department, it was just 30%. The number of those aged 19 and under with driving licences has also been declining since 1978, when 11, 989, 000 had licence. In 2010, it was 9, 932, 441, or 4.1% of American drivers.

In the UK, 683, 273 teenagers have driving licences- just 1.85% of total licence holders, according to Department of Transport figures from September 2010.

But the decline in the US may have more to do with tougher tests and the introduction of the new rule in many states, which force drivers aged under 16 to be with licensed drivers of 21 years and older when driving.

In recent years, the annual number of journeys being made by American drivers of all ages has declined clearly for the first time ever. Car use began falling in 2007, when average petrol prices almost doubled to $4.12 a gallon, and the economy became worse.

But there are signs that it is getting back to normal and American remains a country on wheels. It has a higher number of cars per head of population than any other country in the world.

―Cars will always be a popular means of transportation in America. You have to take into consideration some places don’t have access to public transportation. Cars are the only way some people can get around,‖ says Kristin Nevels. This makes driving necessary in some rural states, where about twice as many teenagers are on the road than in big cities.

63. The underlined word ―declining‖ in the second paragraph most probably means

―__________‖. A. rising B. dropping C. improving D. holding 64. In recent years cars are used less than before mainly because of __________.

A. traffic jams B. harder tests C. expensive petrol D. worst economy 65. We can learn from the last paragraph that Kristin Nevels __________.

A. doubts the popularity of the car use in the future. B. thinks American people can not live without cars. C. holds confident attitude to the cars’ future in America. D. believes America should build up its public transportation. 66. What can be inferred from the text?

第 6页 共 13页

A. The UK has more teenager drivers than the US. B. A 15-year-old boy cannot drive alone in the US.

C. The US has very developed bus transportation system.

D. Big cities have more teenager drivers than rural areas in the US.

Jerry Morris died on 28 October 2009. He was 99 years old. You have probably never heard of him. He was a professor of public health. More than 50 years ago he produced one of the most famous epidemiological (流行病学) papers of the 20th century.

His study showed that bus conductors were much less likely to die of heart disease than bus drivers. Why? Because the conductors spent their working day walking. It seems obvious now but in the middle of the last century doctors were puzzled by the rising numbers of people who got heart diseases. Jerry Morris found one of the main causes: a sedentary (久坐不动的) lifestyle. He started exercising for a few minutes each day and lived until his 100th year.

If you wish to protect your heart, you have to do more than wander in the garden. The exercise needs to be reasonable. Jogging is not for everyone and a round trip to the gym takes a couple of hours, plus the monthly membership fee is only good value if you visit regularly. The answer is simple: walk.

A half-hour purposeful walk five times a week will lower your risk of heart disease, diabetes and strokes. Older people sometimes feel they have left it too late. But it is never too late to start and there are no upper age limits. Start gently. Take your time: a 15-minute flat walk in the nearest park, four or five times a week. Within a month or so, you are already beginning to protect your heart. Build the walks up. When you can comfortably walk for half an hour in the park, go further: try following rivers and canals.

Regular walkers have their own natural gymnasium. There is no membership fee, just some of the finest scenery in the world. Great Britain is the walker’s gym. When you have followed the rivers and canals, and are enjoying walking for a couple of hours, head for the coast. Once again, build it up slowly. When you are comfortable with long coastal walks, you can think of our national parks.

67. Jerry Morris is mentioned in the first paragraph mainly to __________. A. make his epidemiological message known to the public B. praise his research into ways of improving public health C. introduce the topic of doing exercise and keeping healthy

D. give an example of a person who lives a healthy and long life 68. We can learn from the passage that __________.

A. bus conductors are more likely to die of heart disease than bus drivers. B. doctors in the 1950s knew why heart diseases kept happening to people.

C. walking is better than doing sports in a gym because it saves time and money. D. British people love walking because they have free gymnasium with finest scenery. 69. What suggestion does the writer give about walking? A. Parks are the best place for walking.

B. Starters should not push themselves too hard. C. A two-quarter walk a day is suitable for starters.

D. People of old age might not be fit enough to start walking. 70. What might be the best title for this passage?

第 7页 共 13页

A. Long Life Comes from Walking B. Walking Helps Cure Heart Disease C. A Walk a Day Keeps the Doctors away

D. An Hour’s Walk in Nature is Worth Two in the Gym

第二节:根据短文内容,从A-F选项中选出能概括每段主题的最佳选项,并在答题纸上将该选项标号涂黑。选项中有一项是多余项。 A. Be yourself. B. Be humorous. C. Have a big heart.

D. Don’t try to be popular.

E. Reduce your sense of your own value. F. Think of others more than yourself.

Secrets of Being Popular

To be honest, most people liked to be respected and admired by other people. These are some suggestions which can help you win popularity naturally: 71. __________

It is a big mistake try to be liked by all people. When you want to impress other people and please them, it is impossible to avoid insincere praise. This will impress people for a short time, but it can not be continued for a long time. You have to base friendship on being your natural self and avoid always trying to win other people’s respect and admiration. 72. __________

People appreciate those who are considerate of others. If you only talk about yourself and your achievements, people will try to avoid you. People naturally respect those who are willing to spend time listening to others. Only when we put other people’s needs before our own can we become well received by them. 73. __________

There is no need to pretend to be someone you are actually not. If you are satisfied with who you are, you will allow your natural qualities to be noticed by other people, and this is what will naturally attract them. All real happiness and success come from inside. Besides, people will like you only when you accept yourself. 74. __________

Learn to be generous and forgiving when you deal with other people. Forget their small mistakes, but appreciate their good points. If you go out of your way to appreciate the good qualities of others, then people will begin to like your generous spirit and be friendly with you. 75. __________

Some people try to impress people by appearing to be wise and talking all about their own achievements. But when you enlarge your sense of your own value, you only increase your popularity with yourself. If you really do good things, there is no need for you to make your wonderful performance known to the public yourself. Others will do it for you.

第三节(25分)One possible version:

Nowadays, many students often go on line to search for answers to their homework. That is because students are under heavy pressure of study and they have too much homework to do.

第 10页 共 13页

Worse still, some of the problems are too difficult to solve. As a result, they turn to the Internet for help.

There are advantages of searching for answers on the Internet. Most students find it convenient to surf the Internet for accurate answers, which saves them a lot of time and helps them solve difficult problems. However, this also brings some disadvantages. To start with, some students depend heavily on the Internet for answers. Besides, they may lose not only the ability to solve problems but also their interest in study.

In my opinion, measures should be taken to solve the problem. For example, students should realize the importance of finishing homework independently and try to build up confidence in themselves. Meanwhile, they can communicate with their teachers, asking them to reduce the amount of homework. 听力原文:

W: Shall we meet for an early lunch in the clubhouse before we start? Say 11:30? M: Excellent. I’ll see you there then. Text 9

W: Hi, Josh.

M: Hi, Sophie. Thanks for coming. W: So what’s it like being a waiter?

M: It’s OK. There are a lot of good things about working here. W: You mean like meeting girls and talking to them all day? M: Yes, it’s tough, but somebody has to do it! W: Are all the customers friendly?

M: Most of them are. And I’m getting pretty good at dealing with problem customers.

W: I’m interested in earning a little extra money. Is there any chance of getting a job there? M: You’d better ask Carly. She’s the manager. Look. She’s over there. W: Do you get good tips?

M: Yes, usually. But I’m fed up with having to get up early on Saturdays. In fact, I got in trouble for being late on my first day, but I’ve been on time since then. Anyway, what are you having? W: What do you recommend? Text 10

She thought it was great and said I should write a little book about it for other children. So I did. I only showed it to my dad after it was finished. He thought it was good, but he tried to stop me sending it to any publishers. He thought I’d feel disappointed if they didn’t like it. So, I sent it to just one company to see what they’d say. I did a search on the Internet and found that only a few publishers published this kind of book. I just e-mailed one of them the book. The next morning my parents got a phone call from them. They wanted to publish mine. Mum was really calm and businesslike on the phone, but as soon as she put it down she was like jumping up and down with excitement. She’d told me that

this kind of thing just never happened, and I’d believed her, so I was too shocked to feel anything at first. Then my dad started worrying about what would happen in the future. But everything was OK in the end. My next book’s going to be about moving from primary school to secondary school, and I believe it will help many children a lot.
