摘要：A receiver and antenna selection system located at a base station preferablycomprises a plurality of radio units, each connected to its own antenna. Each radio unitreceives a radio message and independently derives quality metrics based on thereception quality of the radio message, as indicated, for example, by a received signalstrength indication, cyclic redundancy check result, preamble correlation magnitude, andother factors. Each radio unit transfers the quality metrics as serial data to an antennaselector. The antenna selector, simultaneously for each radio unit, converts and formatsthe serial data into individual data words and/or bits corresponding to the qualitymetrics, then applies the data words and/or bits to an antenna scoring block fordetermining an antenna score for each antenna. A comparison block compares theantenna scores and selects the best antenna for reception and/or transmission. In apreferred embodiment, the antenna selector weights the importance of each of thereceived quality metrics, such that certain parameters influence the antenna selectionmore than other parameters. If no antenna is clearly superior, the antenna selector mayrotate the antennas each communication period until a suitable antenna is determined, so
that the handset has an opportunity to listen to each of the antennas.
