2014高考英语二轮阅读理解限时训练精品题(6)及答案

[文化教育型阅读理解(一)]

A Practical English Grammar is intended for intermediate(中级的) and post-intermediate students. We hope that more advanced learners and teachers will also find it useful.

The book is a comprehensive survey of structures and forms, written in clear modern English and illustrated with numerous examples. Areas of particular difficulty have been given special attention. Differences between conversational usage and strict grammatical forms are shown but the emphasis is on controversial forms.

In the fourth edition, the main changes are as follows. 1.Explanation and examples have been brought up to date.

2.There is now more information on countable and uncountable nouns, attributive and predicative adjectives, adverbs of place, sentence adverbs, cleft sentences, prepositions, conjunctives, modal verbs, perfect tenses, infinitive constructions, the passive, purpose clauses.

3.Some material has been rearranged to make comparisons easier. For example, parts of chapters on can, may, must, etc. are now grouped by functions; verbs of liking and preference have a chapter to themselves; suggestions and invitations have joined the chapter on commands, requests and advice.

4.The content list now summaries every edition heading, and there is a new index containing many more entries references.

In this edition, the sign “~” is frequently used to show a change of speaker in examples of dialogues. Note also says that although the sign “=”sometimes connects two words or expressions with the same meaning, it is often used more freely, e.g. to indicate a transformation from active to passive or direct to indirect speech.

We wish to thank all at Oxford University Press who have assisted in the preparation of the fourth edition. We would also like to thank Professor Egawa of Nihon University, Japan, Professor Rene Dirven of Duisburg University, West

Mapping Your World

Different forms of maps are appearing. They allow independent travelers to get local knowledge of places they are visiting, from the official to the unusual.Meanwhile,hi-tech developments are creating new ways for us to map the world. Here are two of our favorites:

Green Maps

Green Maps allows people to share with the world their knowledge of environmentally friendly places and attractions in the local areas. Users add information with a set of icons(图标),making it easy to read any map, whatever the nationalities of those who produce it . At present there are over five hundred map projects being developed in 54 countries. Green Maps' advertised idea is “think global, map local”.It is a wonderful way of gaining all sorts of information of a place ,ranging from community gardens to good places of birdwatching.

Green Maps is not specifically intended for travelers. Not all of its maps are online, so it may be necessary for some users to communicate with the producers through the Green Maps website.

Map Mashups

Many people use online maps developed by Google, but not many know about the mashups of them. Working in a similar way to Green Maps, Map Mashups allows people to add icons of their own to existing maps to express a certain topic. Can dogs and cats live in perfect harmony in the same home? People who are thinking about adopting a dog as a friend for their cats are worried that they will fight. A recent research has found a new recipe of success. According to the study, if the cat is adopted before the dog, and if they are introduced when still young (less than 6 months for cats, a year for dogs), it is highly probable that the two pets will get along swimmingly. Two-thirds of the homes interviewed reported a positive relationship between their cat and dog.

However, it wasn't all sweetness and light. There was a reported coldness between the cat and dog in 25% of the homes, while aggression and fighting were observed in 10% of the homes. One reason for this is probably that some of their body signals were just opposite. For example, when a cat turns its head away it signals aggression, while a dog doing the same signals submission.

In homes with cats and dogs living peacefully, researchers observed a surprising behaviour. They are learning how to talk each other's language. It is a surprise that cats can learn how to talk “dog” ,and dogs can learn how to talk “cat”.

What's interesting is that both cats and dogs have appeared to develop their intelligence. They can learn to read each other's body signals, suggesting that the two may have more in common than we previously suspected. Once familiar with each other's presence and body language, cats and dogs can play together, greet each other nose to nose, and enjoy sleeping together on the sofa. They can easily share the same water bowl and in some cases groom (梳理) each other.

The significance of this research on cats and dogs may go beyond pets—to people who don't get along, including neighbors, colleagues at work, and even world superpowers. If cats and dogs can learn to get along, surely people have a good chance.

有人一直担心如果在家里同时养猫和狗,它们会相处得不好。可是研究发现猫和狗是可以和谐相处的。既然猫狗都能和谐相处,人和人以及世界大国之间就更容易做到这一点了。

6.The underlined word “swimmingly” in Paragraph 1 is closest in meaning to ________. A. early

B. sweetly

------珍贵文档!值得收藏!------

------精品文档!值得拥有!------

C. quickly D. smoothly

答案:B。词义猜测题。文章第一段第一句话“Can dogs and cats live in perfect harmony in the same home?”意为“猫和狗在一个家里能和谐相处吗?”有人担心它们会打架,但是研究发现,如果猫被领养在先,而且它们都在很小的时候就认识的话,它们很可能会相处得很和谐。sweetly“甜美地”;smoothly“顺利地”。所以swimmingly在此意为sweetly。另外第二段第一句话:“However, it wasn't all sweetness and light.”中也有暗示。

7.Some cats and dogs may fight when________. A. they are cold to each other B. they look away from each other C. they misunderstand each other's signals D. they are introduced at an early age

答案:C。细节理解题。根据第二段第二、三句话“There was a reported coldness between the cat and dog in 25% of the homes, while aggression and fighting were observed in 10% of the homes. One reason for this is probably that some of their body signals were just opposite.”可知因为猫狗的有些身体信号正好相反,所以才打架或对彼此冷漠。

8.What is found surprising about cats and dogs? A. They eat and sleep together. B. They observe each other's behaviours. C. They learn to speak each other's language. D. They know something from each other's voices.

答案:C。细节理解题。由第三段中的“They are learning how to talk each other's language. It is a surprise that cats can learn how to talk ‘dog’,and dogs can learn how to talk ‘cat’.”可知答案。

9.It is suggested in Paragraph 4 that cats and dogs ________. A. have common interests C. have a common body language

B. are less different than was thought D. are less intelligent than was expected

答案:B。推理判断题。第四段中的“They can learn how to read each other's body signals, suggesting that the two may have more in common than we previously suspected.”意为:它们能够学会如何去理解彼此的身体语言,这表明猫狗有比我们以前所认为的更多的相同之处。也就是说,猫狗的不同之处比我们原来认为的要少。所以选B。

10.What can we human beings learn from cats and dogs? A. We should learn to live in harmony. C. We should live in peace with animals.

B. We should know more about animals. D. We should learn more body languages.

答案:A。推理判断题。从最后一段可以推知答案。

[文化教育型阅读理解(一)]-----B

A fellow speaker from California named Geri flew to Japan, in her favourite jeans and a casual jacket, to give her first speech. Fourteen hours later, four perfectly dressed Japanese gentlemen greeted her at Narita Airport. Smiling and bowing low, they handed her their business cards. With her bag in one hand, Geri took their cards with the other. She thanked them, glanced briefly at the cards, and put them into her jeans pocket quickly.

When the five of them arrived at the hotel, they invited Geri to tea in the lobby (大厅). While sipping tea, the gentlemen presented her with a small gift which she eagerly opened. She was thrilled with the gift and shouted excitedly, “Oh, it's beautiful!”

At this point, the four Japanese gentlemen stood up and, bowing only very slightly, said “Sayonara” and left immediately. Poor Geri was left astonished. What did she do wrong?

Everything! Her jeans were the first gaffe. Even if you're coming off a bicycle in Japan, you do not meet clients (客人) casually dressed. The second mistake was Geri's handling of their business cards rudely. In Japan, the business card is one of the most important communicative tools. It is always presented and accepted respectfully with both hands. However, Geri put their cards away much too quickly. In Japan, people use business cards as a conversation starter. You chat about each other's cards and work and do not put theirs away until they gently and respectfully place yours in safe keeping. Putting it carelessly into her jeans pocket was the ultimate disrespect.

Then, the fourth horror of horrors was that Geri should not have opened the gift in front of her clients. In a land where saving face is critical, it would be embarrassing to discover the gift they gave was not as nice as the one they received. What is worse, Geri hadn't even given them a gift!

1. In the four Japanese gentlemen's eyes, Geri took their cards ________. A.excitedly

B.embarrassingly C.politely D.disrespectfully

2. Why did the four Japanese gentlemen leave Geri suddenly? A.Because they couldn't bear Geri's behaviour any longer. B.Because they had finished the task.

C.Because Geri had something more important to do. D.Because Geri felt embarrassed.

3. What does the underlined word “gaffe” in Paragraph 4 probably mean? A.Ignorance. B.Sadness. C.Mistake. D.Carelessness.

4. The third mistake Geri made was that she ________. A.used her own card as a conversation starter B.took her clients' cards with one hand C.kept her clients' cards in a wrong place D.met her clients in jeans

5. What lesson can we draw from this story? A.Honesty is the best policy.

B.Think twice before you take any action. C.When in Rome, do as the Romans do. D.Don't claim to know what you don't know.
