1)Acquire basic reading skills: get key information through skimming and get detail information by reading carefully.

2) Learn to draw an outline about a passage and retell the story according to the outline by using their own words.

Step 1. Lead-in

Show some pictures of rooms and ask students the following questions to review what we have learned.

“ Who usually does housework at your home?

Do you often help with housework?

Could you please clean this room?”

Then show the picture of Nancy’s room and lead into our new lesson.

Step 2. Fast-reading

Play the tape about 3a and let students look at their books and listen. Then ask

the following questions:“1. How many people are there? 2.why was Nancy’s mom angry with her?3.Did they solve this problem?”

Step 3.Careful-reading

Part 1——Let students read the first paragraph and finish “T/F” task.

Part 2——Lead students read the conversations and try to finish the outline about their different ideas about housework.Then ask students to role play this conversation to understand this passage better.

Part 3——Read sentences from “ For one week...” to “... a clean shirt” and answer the question “ What did they do for one week?”

Part 4——Read the rest part together and answer questions. “ Who cleaned the house? Why? What did Nancy finally understand?”

Step 4. Reflection

Ask students to read the whole passage together and give them several minutes to think about how to retell this story according to their outlines. Then invite some students to retell the story.

Step 5. Summary

Summarize what we have learned in this class and lead students to realize that

everyone should take a part in doing housework.

Step 6. Homework

Finish the exercises 3b and 3a in Page 19.
