Lead in Ask students to do an action “Open and close a door” twice. For the first time, students can use their arms and hands, but imagine they’re disabled for the second time. Try to open and close the door without using arms and hands. Then lead them to say out the difficulties disabled people have in life Step2. Pre-reading With the help of picture, students are asked to make predictions. Step3. While-reading Task 1: Predict who Ben Smith writes to and then read para.1 and answer “Why did Ben write to Miss Li?” Task 2: Read para.1 and para.4 and answer “What kind of letter is it?” and learn the phrase of “make a difference to”. Task 3: Predict the content of para. 2 and para. 3, then read the two paragraphs respectively. Then do the tasks of answering the questions and judging T or F. Step4. After-reading Task 1: Conclude the structure of this thank-you letter. Task 2: Listen to the recording and finish 2d. Task 3: Discuss the relationships between character Task 4: Make a summary for the passage and try to retell Task 5: Watch a video and talk about “How does a dog help people”. Then discuss 2e. Step5. Moral education Show some pictures of the people in need and ask students to think about what they should do.
